The claim that "Holly's parents have raised concerns that samples were prematurely destroyed" is directly corroborated by multiple news reports. Daily Mail reports: "Key evidence, such as DNA samples that could have ruled out a medical incident and her swimming costume, were destroyed." The article also quotes Mrs Woodcock directly: "If this was your child you would not expect to have the issues, such as evidence being destroyed, discrepancies with timelines and DNA samples being destroyed." The Express reports: "DNA samples that could have ruled out a medical incident were not taken, and her swimming costume, were destroyed." The Sun carries the same quote from Mrs Woodcock about "evidence being destroyed" and "DNA samples being destroyed." These reports confirm that Holly Woodcock's parents (Lee and Joanna Woodcock) have publicly raised the specific concern that forensic samples and evidence were destroyed — which is the core of the claim made by MP Daniel Francis in Parliament. The claim is about the parents having raised this concern, not about independently verifying whether French authorities actually destroyed samples. Multiple independent news outlets confirm the parents have done so publicly, in letters to the Prime Minister and in media interviews. The underlying facts of the case are also confirmed: Holly Woodcock, aged 20, from Erith (in the MP's constituency), was found deceased at a holiday villa in Saint-Hilaire-la-Forêt, France, on 2 August 2024. From speech
Q11. I echo the comments the Prime Minister just made. In August 2024, my constituent Holly Woodcock was found deceased in France aged 20 years old. Her parents Lee and Joanna, who are in the Gallery, still have no idea what happened at Holly’s friend’s holiday villa. They have raised significant concerns with the Foreign Office regarding the investigation, including the inconsistencies in witness statements and timelines, how samples were prematurely destroyed and how matters raised by French lawyers were dismissed by the investigating French police officers and officials. I am grateful that a Foreign Office Minister met me and Mr Woodcock, but I share the family’s concerns that our Government should do more to press the French authorities to reopen the investigation. Will the Prime Minister commit to look at what can be done to raise the matter with his French counterparts at the highest level to help Mr and Mrs Woodcock get the answers that their daughter Holly deserves?
