50-year-old money-brokers cannot do the job anymore.

There is some basis for the observation that the high-pressure, floor-based market-making/voice broking role skews young. A 2012 Guardian interview with an interdealer broker noted that "there are not lot of brokers at, say, 55" and that "most change careers in their late 30s, early 40s," citing the intense hours, client entertainment, and physical/mental demands. eFinancialCareers similarly describes the sector as demanding stamina and long hours, with heavy entertainment obligations. City of London workforce data also shows the financial services workforce is disproportionately concentrated in the 22–39 age bracket. However, the categorical assertion that 50-year-olds "cannot do it anymore" is contradicted by abundant evidence of money brokers working well into their 50s and beyond. Public LinkedIn profiles show numerous London-based money brokers at firms such as ICAP, Tullett Prebon, and Tradition with 30–40+ years of continuous experience — meaning they are clearly in their 50s or older and still actively broking. For example, brokers such as Philip Chilvers (36+ years at ICAP), Marcus Krushner (32+ years at ICAP), Peter Lloyd (42 years' experience), Daniel Diodato (40 years at Tullett Prebon), and Nick Davis (who retired after 38 years, likely in his late 50s) all worked well past age 50 in money broking roles. The London Market's own workforce data shows a meaningful cohort aged 50–59 and 60+ in broking and managing agent roles. Thus, while it is accurate that the profession trends young and many leave before their 50s, the blanket claim that 50-year-olds are incapable of doing the job is not supported and is contradicted by numerous counterexamples of brokers who continued successfully into their 50s and 60s. From article
The pressure of being a market-maker in a busy market, when you’ve got people all around you screaming and shouting at you and you’re dealing in numbers and it’s like that, that, that, that – that’s pretty pressurised. That’s why it’s a young man’s job. You don’t get many 50-year-old money-brokers: they can’t do it any more. Goodness me! It’s not an easy job. Not an easy job. When I joined the City, it was the dying days of a gentlemen’s club: magnificent, socially wonderful but going nowhere – there was still a whiff of P G Wodehouse about people who toddled off to the City all day and did things that nobody understood at all. But what I saw in the Eighties and Nineties was London becoming in many ways a genuine global centre for entrepreneurial flair, for innovation, for very hard work – and for creating profits. And without those profits we can’t have the schools and hospitals we need in this country – it’s very, very simple. I am absolutely not conflicted in any way at all about the fact that what we did, overall, was for a social good.
