The search results confirm that the "VAT's the Problem" (#VATsTheProblem) campaign was launched to the hospitality sector on or around June 1, 2026, with the Morning Advertiser dating its article to that day. The speech was delivered on June 3, 2026, making the campaign launch indeed "this week" relative to the speech. Tom Kerridge is described as "spearheading" the campaign across all sources. UKHospitality is listed as a key supporting trade body, and the campaign's launch announcement is hosted on UKHospitality's own website. While the precise framing is that Kerridge spearheads the campaign with UKHospitality among its supporting bodies (rather than a strictly equal co-launch), the substance of the claim — that the "VAT's the Problem" campaign was launched that week by Kerridge with UKHospitality's involvement — is accurate. The campaign's single ask is to cut hospitality VAT to 10%, in line with European rates, which also aligns with the rest of the speech's content. From speech
Q5. This week, Tom Kerridge and UKHospitality launched their “VAT’s the Problem” campaign, and yesterday my neighbour the right hon. Member for Herne Bay and Sandwich (Sir Roger Gale) and I hosted industry bodies, chefs Matt Tebbutt and Thomasina Myers and hospitality leaders from Manchester, Liverpool, London and Kent, including Andy Burnham’s night-time economy adviser Sacha Lord. They all agree with campaigners such as Andy Lennox that the UK’s rate of 20% VAT on hospitality is killing businesses daily. Does the Prime Minister agree that VAT’s the problem? Will he match the pledge of his candidate in Makerfield to slash VAT in line with the rest of Europe?
