**Quarterly data (Q1 2026, quarter-on-quarter):** The claim is accurate on this basis. According to the ONS GDP first quarterly estimate (published May 2026), UK GDP grew 0.6% in Q1 2026 — the highest among G7 countries with available data. The US grew 0.5%, Canada 0.4%, Germany 0.3%, Italy 0.2%, France 0.0%, and Japan's data was not yet available. The Guardian, the UK government's own press release, and multiple outlets all described the UK as "the fastest growing economy in the G7" on this basis.
**Annual data and forecasts:** The claim is inaccurate on this basis. On the same day as Starmer's speech (3 June 2026), the OECD published its Economic Outlook projecting UK GDP growth of just 0.9% for 2026 — well behind the US at 2.0% and Canada at 1.2%. In 2025, the US grew 2.1% (or 2.0% per OECD) versus the UK's 1.4%. So on an annual basis, the US has consistently been the fastest-growing G7 economy, at roughly double the UK's rate.

I am proud of what we are delivering on this side of the House. The fastest growing economy in the G7—they said it could not be done. Despite the war in the middle east, the OECD forecasts that UK growth is up and inflation is down. Net migration, which reached nearly a million under the Conservatives—the Leader of the Opposition was the cheerleader—is down by a staggering 82%. The asylum backlog is down by 46%. We are delivering the fastest reduction in waiting times in the history of the NHS. That is on top of free school meals, free breakfast clubs and free childcare—and, of course, we are lifting half a million children out of poverty. I am very proud of the work of this Labour Government.
