Reasoning & Evidence21 Jul 2026
The claim that "Some Labour Members have received free benefits or gifts" is well-supported by extensive public evidence from official parliamentary records and reputable news sources.
Key findings:
- **Sir Keir Starmer** declared over £100,000 in gifts, benefits, and hospitality since December 2019, including clothing, accommodation, glasses, football tickets, and concert tickets — the highest of any MP (Sky News, BBC News).
- **Other Labour figures** including Deputy PM Angela Rayner, Foreign Secretary David Lammy, Health Secretary Wes Streeting, Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson, Chancellor Rachel Reeves, and Commons Leader Lucy Powell all declared gifts ranging from concert tickets to clothing donations (BBC News, The Independent).
- **Nine Labour MPs** received Taylor Swift concert tickets worth a combined £17,102 (The Independent).
- According to MPData, which compiles data from the official Register of Members' Financial Interests, 192 of 403 Labour (Co-op) MPs declared gifts, benefits, and hospitality from UK sources totalling £508,870.
The Register of Members' Financial Interests is a publicly available official record maintained by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. The declarations are a matter of public record and were the subject of significant media coverage in late 2024 and 2025, sometimes referred to colloquially as the "freebies row."
While MPs from all parties have declared gifts (including Liberal Democrat and Conservative MPs), the specific assertion that "some Labour Members have received free benefits or gifts" is directly confirmed by official parliamentary records and extensive news reporting.

From speech
I echo the sympathies expressed by the Prime Minister for the families recently bereaved, particularly the family of Henry Nowak. Corruption appears to be endemic in donations to British political parties. We have had years of Conservative cronyism. We have had allegations of embezzlement in Scotland. We have had undisclosed donations from crypto billionaires and foreign oligarchs. We have even had freebies dished out to some of the hon. Members sitting on the Labour Benches. The Government have already cracked down on some specific sources of donations that favour their political opponents, such as crypto and foreign money. Will the Prime Minister now commit to restoring the faith of the British public in the integrity of our British democracy by putting a cap on all political donations?
