The core assertion is accurate: Farage said on Sky News that the NHS should not be funded through general taxation, and he later failed to acknowledge or denied the plain meaning of those words. In a Sky News interview with Beth Rigby around 30 April–1 May 2025, Farage explicitly stated: "I do not want it funded through general taxation. It doesn't work. It's not working. We're getting worse bang for the buck than any other country, particularly out of those European neighbours. I want it free at the point of delivery, but it's how we get there." This is confirmed by multiple reputable sources (The Independent, Daily Record, HuffPost UK, The National). Farage later denied or backtracked on the plain meaning of those words. A BBC article reported that in a subsequent LBC interview, Farage said he wanted the NHS to be funded through general taxation and claimed he had been "wilfully misinterpreted" by Labour. A March 2026 Searchlight article documents a broader pattern of Farage disowning his own previous statements, including telling interviewers "I never said it" when confronted with his own prior words, and repeatedly shouting "Wrong!" when questioned about broken pledges. The phrasing "could not remember his own words" is a satirical flourish (he didn't literally claim amnesia; he denied or reinterpreted), but in parliamentary rhetorical context, the assertion accurately captures that Farage said something on television and then did not acknowledge having said it. From speech
Q12. May I ask the Prime Minister about our national health service and what better treatments we can offer people suffering from memory loss? A very distressing case was recently brought to my attention by a constituent in Wouldham, a village in my constituency, of a man who could not remember his own words— even though he said them on television—that the NHS should not be funded through general taxation. What can we do to ensure that my constituents in Chatham and Aylesford secure clarity on future Kent and Medway NHS funding, and what can we do to help the leader of Reform UK?
