“The addressee says that some Ukip members are “nutters.””
Reasoning & Evidence21 Jul 2026
The claim that Nigel Farage said some UKIP members are "nutters" is confirmed by multiple independent sources.
First, the interview transcript on the High Profiles website shows the interviewer stating: "You are quite frank about Ukip in the book – you say that some of its members are 'nutters' –" and Farage responding: "Some of them. Not all of them, no." This confirms Farage acknowledges saying it.
Second, The Guardian (December 19, 2011) directly quotes from Farage's autobiography *Flying Free*: "Enthusiasm is a prerequisite (in a new party) and enthusiasm is nowhere greater than in the fanatical or the personally ambitious. Nutters and the self-seeking therefore hitch rides." This confirms Farage used the word "nutters" in print to describe some UKIP members.
Third, The Guardian article further notes that Farage was asked if this was still a problem and he replied "Less than it was," confirming he stood by the characterization of some members as "nutters."
The claim is accurate: Farage did say that some UKIP members are "nutters," both in his autobiography and as acknowledged in the interview.
