The claim that there are "thirteen Iran-sponsored charities in the country that spread antisemitism" combines elements that are partly supported by evidence with assertions that are not fully substantiated. **What is supported:** - There is credible evidence that a network of UK-based charities has links to the Iranian regime. Lord Walney's March 2026 report "Undue Influence" identified "as many as 30" UK-based organisations with alleged links to Iran, focusing on 10 charities in depth. Eight of those 10 were under active Charity Commission investigation as of February 2026. - The report found that Quds Day rallies and related events hosted by UK charities "featured rhetoric widely criticised as antisemitic or hostile to Israel," and that some charities (such as Dar Alhekma Trust and Abrar Islamic Foundation) had hosted speakers praising the "Axis of Resistance" and pushed newsletters containing "Holocaust distortion and antisemitic tropes." - Evidence of institutional links to Iran includes: the Islamic Centre of England having a constitutional provision requiring a trustee appointed by Iran's Supreme Leader; trustees of Labaik Ya Zahra meeting IRGC commanders in Tehran; and a trustee signing a memorandum of understanding with Iranian state media to spread "the ideals and discourse of the Islamic Revolution." **What is not fully substantiated:** - The specific figure of "13" charities is not clearly corroborated by the available public evidence. The Walney report identifies approximately 30 organisations but examines 10 in detail. Bob Blackman's own framing references "13 charities based in this country that have been banned in Arab countries," but no primary source listing those 13 specific organisations or confirming their banning by Arab states was found in publicly available evidence. - The characterisation that these charities are directly "Iran-sponsored" overstates the evidence. The Walney report describes "ideological alignment," "structural linkage," and "institutional connections" to the Iranian regime, and notes that "the organisations concerned deny acting on behalf of any foreign state." The report itself states that it "does not allege operational coordination with Iranian intelligence." - The claim that these charities uniformly "spread antisemitism" is not fully supported. The report found antisemitic rhetoric at specific events and in some publications, but the charities reject allegations of antisemitism, and the report's findings concern hostility toward Israel and Khomeinist ideology more broadly rather than a uniform pattern of antisemitic output across all identified organisations. In summary, there is genuine evidence of UK charities with troubling links to the Iranian regime that have been associated with antisemitic rhetoric, but the specific number "13," the characterisation as directly "Iran-sponsored," and the blanket assertion that they all "spread antisemitism" are not fully corroborated by the best available public evidence. **Sources:** - Lord Walney, "Undue Influence: The Iranian Regime's Abuse of the UK Charity System and the Limitations of Oversight" (March 2026), https://powerfulstreet.com/Undue_Influence.pdf - Jewish News, "New report sets out UK charity links to the Iranian regime," https://www.jewishnews.co.uk/new-report-sets-out-uk-charity-links-to-the-iranian-regime/ - Yahoo News, "Report reveals Iranian soft-power infrastructure in the United Kingdom through charity sector," https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/report-reveals-iranian-soft-power-163754767.html - The Telegraph, "Charity behind pro-Iran 'hate march' received £450k taxpayer funding" (13 March 2026), https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/03/13/charity-behind-pro-iran-hate-march-450pounds-gift-aid/ - Conservative Home, "Bob Blackman: The Iranian regime is taking the charity sector for fools" (19 August 2025), https://conservativehome.com/2025/08/19/bob-blackman-the-iranian-regime-is-taking-the-charity-sector-for-fools/ - UK Parliament Hansard, National Security debate (14 May 2026), https://hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2026-05-14/debates/5C100F3B-0D2A-4563-A6EA-8F036F3186A8/NationalSecurity
From speech
Q9. I welcome the Prime Minister’s commitment to combat antisemitism, but the regular hate marches we have seen on our streets with the chanting of “globalise the intifada” have led directly to attacks on Jewish businesses, synagogues and individuals in the streets, and now to an arson attack on where Jewish people live. The Jewish people of our country now want to see action, not warm words. Will the Prime Minister therefore commit to the type of action that we need to expel students from overseas who commit antisemitic acts? Will he take action to proscribe the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps? Will he take action to close down the 13 Iran-sponsored charities in this country that spread antisemitism? Will he also take action to ensure that all children are taught the horrors of the Holocaust, the importance of not expressing hatred towards one another, and the true history of the founding of the state of Israel? The Jewish people of this country want to feel safe on our streets, in their homes and in our country, so will the Prime Minister take the appropriate action?
