The claim that Mrs Kemi Badenoch is repeating her offer to the Prime Minister to work together on welfare is accurate, confirmed by multiple sources. In September 2025, Badenoch publicly made an initial offer to Labour and Starmer to work together on cutting the welfare bill, proposing cross-party talks. The Conservative Party's own website published a speech titled "Kemi to Keir: Let's work together to fix welfare" on September 9, 2025, in which she said: "I'm making the Prime Minister a serious offer" to "work together in the national interest to find common ground and get a serious plan" on welfare. Sky News and The Telegraph both reported this offer at the time. In late May 2026, Tony Blair published an essay through the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change in which he wrote: "If the Conservative Party repeats its offer of working together on welfare, Labour should accept the offer." This was widely reported by the BBC, The Independent, and other outlets. In her June 3, 2026 speech, Badenoch references Blair's comment and states: "Today I am repeating that offer to the Prime Minister. Is he ready yet?" — explicitly confirming she is repeating a previously made offer. A Daily Mail article from June 15, 2026 further quotes Badenoch saying: "I have made an offer of working together repeatedly for well over a year since February 2025 because I could see what needed to be done." The claim is therefore accurate: Badenoch had previously made the offer, Blair referenced it, and she is now repeating it. From speech
He says he is proud of what they are delivering—I am glad to see that the Prime Minister still has his sense of humour, given we all know that he is losing his job soon. He has no authority, and we know why: his MPs will not let him do anything. The Welfare Secretary said in private what the Government will not dare say in public. He said: “Every meeting I have is: ‘Who can we tax in order to pay benefits to others?’” Last week, Tony Blair said: “If the Conservative Party repeats its offer of working together on welfare, Labour should accept”. Today I am repeating that offer to the Prime Minister. Is he ready yet?
