Reasoning & Evidence21 Jul 2026
The claim is well-supported by multiple official UK government announcements made before the speech date of 3 June 2026. **Key evidence:** 1. **October 2025**: The Prime Minister announced £10 million in emergency funding for Jewish community security via the Community Security Trust (CST), following the terrorist attack at Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester. This brought the total Jewish Community Protective Security (JCPS) Grant for 2025/26 to £28 million (up from £18 million previously). 2. **February 2026**: The government announced record funding of up to £73.4 million for 2026–27 across protective security schemes for Jewish, Muslim, and other faith sites. Of this, £28.4 million was allocated to the Jewish Community Protective Security Grant (managed by CST), described as record-level funding. This was an explicit increase/maintenance at higher levels. 3. **April 2026**: A further £25 million emergency fund was announced to provide immediate protection for Jewish communities following the Golders Green stabbing attack in London. 4. The government's own announcements explicitly describe these as "record investment" and "record funding" to protect Jewish communities, including more police patrols, security at synagogues and schools, and the £7 million to tackle antisemitism in education settings (schools, colleges, and universities). The speech's phrasing — "investing more to keep Jewish communities safe, with more police patrols and greater security at schools and synagogues; investing £7 million to tackle antisemitism within our universities" — closely mirrors the official government announcements. The only minor discrepancy is that the £7 million covers schools, colleges, and universities (the speech mentions only universities), but this does not materially affect the core claim. The government has demonstrably increased investment in Jewish community security through multiple funding announcements before 3 June 2026, including emergency funds, record-level protective security grants, and additional policing resources. **Sources:** - GOV.UK, "Record funding to protect Jewish communities" (16 October 2025): https://www.gov.uk/government/news/record-funding-to-protect-jewish-communities - GOV.UK, "Record funding to protect faith communities" (19 February 2026): https://www.gov.uk/government/news/record-funding-to-protect-faith-communities - GOV.UK, "Record investment to protect Jewish communities" (July 2026, referencing earlier April 2026 announcements): https://www.gov.uk/government/news/record-investment-to-protect-jewish-communities - BBC News, "Extra £250m to boost Jewish community safety": https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c78y2xg0090o - TheyWorkForYou, Hansard Written Answers on JCPS Grant (25 February 2026): https://www.theyworkforyou.com/wrans/?id=2026-02-11.112885.h
From speech
I thank the hon. Gentleman for his question, and we are united in our belief that we must fight the poison of antisemitism wherever it is found. We are investing more to keep Jewish communities safe, with more police patrols and greater security at schools and synagogues; investing £7 million to tackle antisemitism within our universities; and bringing in proscription-like powers to clamp down on malign state activity. We will set out further steps in coming days, and I will make sure the hon. Gentleman is fully informed of the steps we are taking.
